What a week, my hardest so far. I can honestly say I have found this week exceptionally hard going. It started while running my long run on Sunday, where I only managed to do 50 minutes, before having to stop as I felt so sick. This then happened again on last night’s run. Now I’m not sure, but I think this is due to what I have been eating and drinking before I run. As on Saturday night I had a few glasses of wine and ate quite late, meaning the next day it felt the dinner and drinks from the night before were all having a party in my stomach. So this week I am trying to concentrate more on keeping hydrated and eating the right things before I run, so I have enough energy and don’t feel dehydrated when I am running.

With my 10k race in Littlehampton this Sunday, I have already been thinking ahead of what to eat the night before and I think it will be best to avoid alcohol over the weekend all together. As well as making sure my kit is clean and ready so I feel prepared inside and out for Sunday morning.

I have been looking into getting a new top that I could train in, as I would like something loser now that I am doing the longer runs. After speaking to some friends, I picked up this useful information that I wanted to share. I was advised that if you are thinking of getting any new running kit, anything from socks, tops, bottoms, trainers etc you should buy these in advance of your race, so you can wear the kit in. I was advised that you should avoid wearing any new kits for a race, as it could rub or cause discomfort as you have not been wearing it before. So if you do need to get anything before the race day, it’s probably best to start thinking about it now, so you can wear it in.

Good luck to anyone running their 10k this weekend and enjoy it, fingers crossed the training will help us all.

Kerry Dunbar from EDF Energy is running the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon on 26 October. It will be her first ever half marathon and she'll be sharing her training highs and lows over the next few weeks in the official Birmingham Half Marathon blog.
