Acorn's Annual Road Race

Birmingham City Council, organisers of the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon, are also supporting the 12th annual road race and family fun run in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust, which will be staged at the University of Birmingham campus on Sunday 19 October at 11.30am.

Join the crowds of people that will be taking part in the road race to raise money for Birmingham’s children’s hospice ‘Acorns’.You can be part of this exciting event by either running or walking the 2k family fun run or for more of a challenge, you can run the 5k road race.
The 5k race is run under UK Athletics rules and regulations and therefore all entrants must be 16 or over on 18th October 2008 and must be amateurs as defined by UK athletics. The 2k race is a fun run for everyone.
Acorns Children’s Hospice cares for children who are life limited and unlikely to reach adulthood. Through three hospices based in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester they offer respite, emergency and terminal care and the charity’s community team provides support to the whole family at home, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
It costs £4,500 per day, per hospice to provide these services free of charge to families and they receive less than 10% of their funding from the Government. Over 11 years this event has raised more than £55,000 to help Acorns continue its much needed work.
Entry for the 5k costs £7 for affiliated runners and £9 if you are not a member of a UK Athletics affiliated club. You can also enter on the day for £10. The 2k race costs £2.50 to enter or £3 on the day.
