Birmingham City Council has today announced one of the UK’s largest energy providers, EDF Energy, as title sponsor for the first official Birmingham Half Marathon. The EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon – the ‘Race Against Climate Change’ – will take place on Sunday 26th October 2008 and is part of a five-year sponsorship deal.

The ‘Race Against Climate Change’ is based on the belief that sport has the power to unite and inspire people to want to work for a better future. EDF Energy is using its sponsorship of the half marathon to call on all runners to join together in making a real difference in the race against climate change and demonstrate their own commitment to reducing their personal carbon footprints by a tonne.

Starting just outside the Birmingham Alexander Stadium, the half marathon will make its way through the heart of the city before heading out to Edgbaston and back down the Hagley Road ahead of its finish on Broad Street near Centenary Square.

Full details of the route for the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon have now been unveiled and the online entry system has also been launched today so that runners can now sign up to take part.
